Adverse Weather Conditions from NUL Borough Council dated 13 January 2010

Adverse weather will affect recycling services across the borough today (Wednesday, 13 January).

Collection crews for the refuse and kerbside recycling services can access main roads and some side roads but a number of other roads are inaccessible to refuse collection lorries due to the recent snowfall and icy conditions.

Refuse collections are particularly difficult in Loggerheads and some parts of Clayton.

Operatives will be aiming to clear today’s backlog after their rounds tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. They will also be working an extra day on Saturday.

If your refuse bin is not emptied today, please leave it out on each of these days and the operatives will do their best to visit you.
If your bin still hasn’t been emptied by Saturday evening, please save the contents for your next scheduled collection day, when it will be collected along with any extra waste.

Recycling not picked up by 5pm today should also be saved for your next collection date.

Residents can also recycle their household waste at 18 bring sites situated throughout the borough. For more information, click on this link www.newcastle-staffs.gov.uk/environment_index.asp?id=SXA529-A780BA14&cat=1348

Alternatively, people can use Newcastle Recycling Centre in Leycett Lane, which is run by Staffordshire County Council.

David Adams, Executive Director for Operational Services, said: "The borough council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their continued patience and understanding.

"The crews are able to access main roads and some side roads, although icy roads, especially in remote and rural areas, are still affected.
“Measures have been put into place to clear the backlog, but this is still subject to the weather conditions.
“We will continue to assess the situation on a daily basis.”

Daily updates are available from the borough council’s website.
