BT Phone Scam BT is warning consumers to be on their guard after a series of phone scams involving people claiming to be calling from the company. The scammers call up their victim and warn them that their account is in arrears. They then ask for a card number or bank details to settle the account. If the person refuses or asks for proof the fraudsters then offer to prove who they are by disconnecting the phone line then and there. Phone scams from persons pretending to be a representative from a number of organisations are common at the moment and the theme can vary. Don’t be afraid to question a caller’s identity. If you are unsure you should hang-up and place a call to the company in question by using a number that you actually look up; not one provided by the caller. If you are not one of our Watchdogs please seek permission from the author if you wish to reproduce this alert for your own publication. Produced: 25 September 2009 |

"Community News" - confusion caused. Thanks for publicising the above two events in Broughton Parish Room,
but it reads as if they are both being organised by the Garden Guild,
whereas in fact the Live & Local show on 17 October is in aid of Broughton
Tennis Club, and the Table Top Sale on 21 November is in aid of Croxton
& Broughton Garden Guild. I apologise for probably not making this
clear, and would be grateful if you could amend this in any further publicity.
Thanks. Judy |

Live & Local show on 17 October in aid of Broughton Tennis Club 7.30 pm, Saturday, 17th October 2009 The evening’s entertainment starts with some poetry performed with great verve by two actors from the Cotton Grass Theatre, followed by two short plays from Alan Bennett’s ‘Talking Heads’ series of monologues, which some readers will already be familiar with. ‘Bed among the Lentils’ is about a vicar’s wife with a problem staying sober who finds love in an unusual place, while ‘A Chip in the Sugar’ is about Graham, who still lives with his Mum, and the shenanigans when she meets up with an old flame. Simply but professionally performed, these plays need little in the way of set but are big on emotion, being in turn funny and poignant, and thoroughly watchable. This production is being staged with financial support from the Live
& Local scheme for bringing professional shows to rural communities
at reasonable prices, as well as from Stafford Borough Council, and is
in aid of Broughton Tennis Club. It is billed as being suitable for adults
and older children (15+), and tickets priced at £7 for adults and
£5 for under-16s will be available from Judy Thompstone (01630-620225),
Louise Butter (01630-620479) or Rev. John Day (01630-620671). |
