Can you alert people that there has been a youth driving a white Ford reg T953 RUY ( maybe an R not a T as first letter) in Almington behaving suspiciously .It has been reported to Mercia & Staffs police .He was parked up in a gate way about 5 yesterday .Would not say why when approached .Wearing a black woolie hat and a black jacket with white lettering - despite the heat .

£3 Million Car-Selling Scam
The Office of Fair Trading is warning consumers about vehicle scams which cost UK consumers nearly £3 million every year.

Vehicle matching scams work by approaching consumers selling their cars and promising falsely to match them with definite buyers. Typically the seller is cold-called by phone once they have placed an advert in a magazine, on a website or in a newspaper.

Rogue Trader Alert
Trading standards have received reports of a possible rogue trader operating near the Wombourne area. The trader is male and drives a yellow pick up truck. He is going door to door asking for work as a tree surgeon or for any scrap metal.

Bogus Council Official
Lichfield District Council has received reports that someone calling himself "Richard" is posing as a Council Officer and calling at local homes. He has left a variety of messages asking people to call him back, either about building work or a £25.000 prize draw. On all occasions he has left the following number 0845 303 2637.

When called the number gives you a message asking you to leave your number.

Garden Security Alert
Staffordshire Police are currently advising residents to make sure the contents of their sheds and garages are secure.

Sheds and garages are popular targets for burglars as they are often overlooked when security is being considered. The value of the contents is often much higher than first imagined. There can be £400 to £500 worth of property including bikes, lawnmowers, power tools, barbeques and garden furniture and a basic padlock does not provide enough security.

Identity Theft
Staffordshire Trading Standards recently dealt with a case of what was thought at first glance to be an unsolicited goods scam. However as events unfolded it now appears to be a possible case of identity theft.

The report was from a lady who had taken delivery of a parcel on behalf of her husband. However when he returned home he told her he was not expecting a parcel. The man then telephoned the company in question and he was informed an account had been set up in his name and that they would expect payment. After further contact the company agreed to accept the goods back and arranged a collection.

Landlord Scam

There have been reports of tenants acting as landlords to scam would be residents out of a deposit for a house they will never be able to move into.


The scam works by the tenant posing as the landlord and conning would be tenants out of a deposit. There is often little or no paper work and the scammer usually targets people who have no understanding about tenancy agreements or people who don’t speak English.

Mail Order Scam
Staffordshire Trading Standards are warning consumers to be aware before purchasing goods from unknown companies placing large advertisements in local newspapers and magazines.

The large advertisements are quite distinctive offering a range of electrical items including iPods, cameras, vacuum cleaners etc often at discounted prices. They all claim next day delivery by DHL / City Link and to be a ‘Trust UK Approved Trader’.
