HALES WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Thursday 10th. June at 7.30 pm. at the Hales Club. The speaker is Tina Doxey. Her talk is entitled " Dead end Job"

HALES WOMEN'S INSTITUTE - MAY - MEETING

Staffordshire folklore was the subject of local historian Tim Cockin. Tim is the author of the huge tome entitled the Staffordshire Chronicle, the most comprehensive book about Staffordshire, with over forty thousand entries. He told members about the giants of Kinver, the fairies of Caldon Low, ghosts including phantom beasts, boggarts and witches. Also the oldest surviving custom which is the Horn dance of Abbots Bromley. Tim showed members a sample of the wooden clog almanacs made with pictures for folk who couldn't read and a scolds bridle. The latter was used on women who nag. It was placed over the head, with a metal plate placed over the tongue to stop them talking. Then the women were led through the streets in disgrace.

The summer Supper for 17th June has been cancelled.

The next meeting is Thursday 10th. June at 7.30 pm. at the Hales Club. the speaker is Tina Doxey. Her talk is entitled " Dead end Job". The competition is a humorous tombstone inscription.

SCAM Alert - A bogus trader

(1) A bogus trader smashed a wall down

A bogus trader smashed a wall down at an elderly man’s property in Stoke on Trent. The householder paid them £1,500 cash. The trader then told the householder that they needed more equipment to finish the job. They then took the man to the bank where he withdrew £7,450 in cash. The trader was driving a white van.

A bogus trader carried out some roofing work at an elderly man’s property in Stoke on Trent. The trader ‘accidentally’ knocked a bucket of water over the householder. Staffordshire Ghosts

Anthony writes "Following on from my previous published works, I have been commissioned to produce a book on the ghostly tales of Staffordshire. With ghost books it is important to get the right mix of the traditional tale, the updated story, and the brand new in order to satisfy as many readers as possible. I have plenty of the traditional, but would be grateful for any information, leads, or pointers to personal experiences you could offer. Of course if you desire anonymity that would be guaranteed."

Any information or stories can be sent to paranormalstaffordshire@hotmail.com

Paintings and Photogtaphs of Britsh Wildlife - Dorothy Clive Garden from 16th to 29th August

Angie Pyatt's next exhibition at the Dorothy Clive Garden from 16th to 29th August. As usual it is focusing on Paintings and Photogtaphs of Britsh Wildlife.

Sometimes only a picture can get our attention!

Her last call was from her new mobile phone... Do you see the motorcycle?

Now do you see it?

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 155 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle.

The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident.
The car had two passengers
And the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them.

The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly.

This graphic demonstration was placed at The Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department in Stockholm.

Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners
AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A MOBILE PHONE!!!!!

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Save a life.

Stop talking on your Mobile Phone phones and Texting while trying to drive.
The life you save may be your own..... Or mine...
