Oportunist Burglary - Sunday 8 March between 5.30 & 6.55pm
A garage door was left open along Chestnut Road. A set of golf clubs + bag were stole. Did you see any one hanging around, perhaps loading golf kit into a car or even walking along the road with the bag on their shoulder? If so please contact the police on the non- emergency number

Subject: Bogus Official Burglary,Heath Street,Newcastle.

At about 4pm Wednesday the 4th,three men called at the rear kitchen door at a house in Heath Street, Newcastle, the home of an elderly couple in their 80s.The men said they were working next door and needed to turn the water off as there was the danger of an explosion in the area.In the general confusion and cross chat in these offences the men were allowed in the house and made as though they were turning off various downstairs stop taps and taps.At one stage 2 of the men were in the kitchen with the male occupant as his wife stood in the doorway with the 3rd offender behind her.

It was then that the latter offender choose his chance to go upstairs and steal £400 from a bedroom, meanwhile a black leather handbag with about £1400 had been taken from downstairs. Under the pretext of telling the occupier that someone had damaged the front door the offenders left via the back door as he, the occupier, went to investigate. In leaving they utilised the door key to lock
the door from the outside to give them more time to make their escape. Offenders were three white males 2 with possible local accents one
described as possible foreign accent. No 1.late teens, early 20s,5ft 8 slim build, wearing dark anorak and trousers. N0.2 in his 30s,less height than
No.1.,with a heavier build, wearing a baseball cap.No.3,5ft 5 lt coloured hair, wearing a grey coloured short jacket and grey trousers.
No.1. was the first male to enter into conversation with the IPs,and turns or makes to turn off the various taps;No3 is the male who went upstairs to the bedroom to steal the £400.
Detailed police enquiries followed in the neighbourhood and the 3 men were possibly seen after the offence to be walking down the street towards Enderley Street almost shouting to each other and seemed happy about something.
This particular offence appears to be an isloted one last Wednesday in our area.

Hi, I am an aircrew researcher and just wondered if the Mr Paul J Bemrose who wrote "At Loggerheads with the Enemy" is the same man who served in 12 Squadron and became a pow.?
He was also an accomplished water colorist while in Muhlberg pow camp, in Tom Swallows book
If it is the same man, could you possibly pass on my e mail address, as the son of one of his ex crew members is looking for him.
Many thanks

Further Information

In my research into my fathers time spent in Bomber Command (http://www.raf-bombercommand.co.uk) I have attempted to trace the surviving member of the crew who were shot down over Hamblin 8th Oct 1943 in Lancaster Bomber ED 995 PH-X
This plane carried my father through his complete first tour ( 30 operations) in the summer of 1943.
The only surviving member of the crew was Sgt P J Bemrose who was imprisoned in the POW camp at Muhlberg, Stalag IVB.
During the time spent a Stalag IVB he joined a group of men headed up by Tom Swallow to form the Muhlberg Motor Club and produced monthly magazines on all things motoring with everything handwritten and hand-DRAWN in vegetable inks, ink from lamp-black and soot etc)
Each edition was circulated around the camp from May 1944 to March 1945
P J Bemroses contributions were poems and landscape drawings one being titled The Awakening. Its the view from the childhood bedroom of P.J. Bemrose, and is a view of the Wye Valley.
This view kept Tom Swallow going through four years of captivity when he first saw the original drawing, and after the war - and onother fifteen years of searching on every family holiday he could afford - he finally located the house with that view out of the top bedroom window and bought it to later retire to!
Many of these monthly magazines have been produced in a book Memories Of The Open Road by Tom Swallow and Arthur H Pill.(A brilliant book)
If anyone has information on St P J Bemrose please contact me
