The owners of Camp Hill have kindly offered to open their garden which
contains one of the finest displays of late flowering rhododendrons in
a magnificent setting for a fundraising event for Maer Hills Protection
Group. This historic house was built on Maer Hills for Sarah Wedgwood
aunt to Charles Darwin and his wife Emma Wedgwood and was often visited
by them. These visits and walks through the adjoining hills proved inspirational
to Darwin's early thoughts on evolution.
Entrance £2.50. Afternoon tea will be available

The threat of an appeal or a fresh application for wind turbines is still a distinct possibility and all proceeds from this event will go to the Maer Hills Protection Group fighting fund.
SCAM Bogus Window Cleaner
We have received a report from Staffordshire Police to warn people of
a bogus window cleaner currently operating in the Newcastle area. An elderly
lady has reported that a man gained access to her home by telling her
he was the new window cleaner. Whilst she went to make him a drink he
stole £100 from her purse and fled.

SCAM - Advance Fee Fraud
Various reports have been issued to warn against a type of fraud commonly know as 'West African' or '419' advance fee fraud. The fraud has been know in many forms but according to the Metropolitan Police the most common scam begins with a letter bearing a Nigerian postage stamp or frank mark; E-mails are increasingly being used as they are harder for Law Enforcement agencies to intercept. The writer, usually bearing the title of Doctor, Chief or General, will explain that a 'mutual business associate' has suggested that the writer confidentially contact the addressee.
