Last Thursday 22 April The BloomIn'Ashley Fundraising Auction raised a £1040

Thanks again for supporting our activites.

Last Thursday the BloomIn'Ashley Fundraising Auction raised a £1040, the proceeds of the auction, a raffle on the night and the kind offers of flower barrel sponsorship by local residents combined to break our own record set this time last year. Our thanks go to all those who bought, brought and bid for items, and those who took a chance on the raffle. We are also very grateful to Margaret and the team at The Peel Arms as well our resident auctioneer Colin Sutton. The funds raised will be put together with the grant from the Parish Council and will go towards flowers, equipment and other items required to keep making our pretty village even prettier.

Last Friday and Saturday 23/24 April The BloomIn'Ashley Group (over 30 volunteers) collected 27 bags of rubbish

Over the course of the weekend over 30 people helped out. Most came along on Saturday but such is the level of support we have, some went out on Friday night as they were away for the weekend and some promised to do an area on Sunday morning. We collected 27 bags of rubbish which were wisked magically away by Newcastle Councils 'Streetscene' team on Saturday afternoon. This year for the first time, and thanks in part to the glorious weather, we were able to put on 'Coffee & Cakes' for the weary pickers, a selection of whom are pictured.

Kindest regards
Nic

A local resident wants to try and find a sharer for a part walled kitchen garden who would share the work and the produce

A local Knighton resident writes "I have a part walled kitchen garden on the farm but haven't the time or
the energy to keep up with it at present.

It is on a raised bed system. I want to try and find a sharer who would share the work and the produce.

There is space for some chickens if they were interested or even a pig!

I believe that there is a waiting list for allotments.
If you are interested, please email info@loggerheads.eu

Anyone for Tennis?

The two grass courts belonging to Broughton Tennis Club, located behind Broughton Parish Room at Wetwood (on the B5026 between Loggerheads and Croxton) are open to anyone at very reasonable subscriptions covering the whole season: £25 for a family, £10 for adults, £5 for juniors under 16, or £2.50 for visitors.

Members can then go along and play whenever they wish.

For more information or to join, please contact Louise Butter (01630-620479) or Judy Thompstone (01630-620225)

Knighton Village Hall - another useful Parish Facility

Knighton Village Hall, on the main road through Knighton, serves a wide area including Pipe Gate, Dorrington, Irelands Cross, Bearstone, Red Bull and especially the old Mucklestone Parish. It was purpose built in 1900 and has been a very useful and appreciated local facility. It has a big kitchen, a raked stage with curtains, plenty of tables, very comfortable chairs, a bar area, and some equipment available to hire. It is licensed by Newcastle Borough Council There is also a small Committee room also available to hire separately, holding about 15.

It's run by The Village Hall Committee who are responsible for maintaining the Hall, accepting Bookings and putting on some Events. The Committee includes Representatives from the regular Hall users, such as The Badminton Club, The Mucklestone Women’s Institute, The Parish Church, and so on. It is supported by Loggerheads Parish Council who also use the Hall.

The Hall is open to rent by any individual or local organisation for virtually any purpose, dance, entertainment, rehearsal, sport, drama, auction sales, Quiz nights, meetings, Funeral wakes, etcetera... It’s licensed for Music and Dancing. Its capacity is about 120 seated, has excellent height and light, and great character as you would expect from a building of this age. Car Parking is available 100 yards from the hall on the Village Playing Field, which is also available for hire. Good Disabled access to all parts of the Hall.

Very reasonable rates are charged and Bookings and Enquiries are dealt with by Mrs N Bentham, 01630 647970.
