Corn starch bags - logos to look out for

The two logo's residents need to look out for if they wish to buy the corn starch bags in the supermarket. They can also use a single sheet of newspaper to line the silver kitchen caddy or they can put their food waste directly into the green outdoor food bin.

OR

The other option is to buy the bags from the list of stockists including Loggerheads Community Information Shop.

Newcaslte Borough Council stresses it is important residents are aware they do not have to use the corn starch bags and there are a number of options for residents.

Additionally if residents are low on red bags for plastic bottles or any of the other bags (green, blue and salvation army bags) they can order them over the phone (01782 7171 7171) or if they are in Newcastle Town Centre they can pick them up at the Guildhall.

Some residents NUL BC have spoken to think they have to buy the other recycling bags, they do not and we are providing these free of charge.

Mucklestone Spring Walk, Sunday 18th April 2010

William Friend is hosting a ‘Mucklestone Spring Walk’ at Church Farm Mucklestone (TF9 4DN), on Sunday 18th April from 2.00 p.m.

Walkers are asked to park at the school, or nursery car park (off Rock Lane).

The route leaves from and returns to Mucklestone Church, and follows ‘Cemetery lane’ (please collect route plan, donation to ‘Friends of St. Mary’s’ here ) through the farm past ponds and fields for about half a mile into ‘The Cowleasow wood’.

This 20 acre wood is home to a colony of rare wild daffodils as well as many other species of woodland spring flowers and wildlife, including a colony of the endangered and secretive dormouse, and many rare ferns and mosses. The whole farm is managed under a ‘Countryside Stewardship Scheme’, to enhance and develop the range of diverse wildlife habitats on the farmland and woodlands, and a complimentary range of traditional rural enterprises.
Those with 4 wheel drive vehicles may wish to offer rides to disabled visitors, and can get to within 30yards of the daffodils with a turning circle at the end.
Walkers can do a circuit of the wood and either return by the same route, or the more intrepid can visit the ‘Winnington Waterfall’, the route to which will be marked (access by kind permission of Mrs. Flavia Friend.)

Mucklestone W.I. will be offering teas and refreshments in St. Mary’s Church from 3.00 p.m.

The nurseries and gardens will be open to visitors, from which logs from the woods can now be purchased.
It is hoped that this can become an annual community event for the Sunday after Easter. For many years Church Farm played host to the North Staffs hunt’s ‘Mucklestone Point to Point’ on Easter Saturday.

For reasons of safety, and the number of ponds etc. all children must be under close supervision of an adult at all times.
Children are encouraged to pick flowers, leaves and twigs etc. for drawing and study purposes, provided no more than one of each species is collected and no root or bulb is removed from the ground. William will be on hand in the church at tea to identify any specimens brought in.

It is hoped that other walks and tours can be arranged in due course to look at Rhododendrons, Camellias, Bamboos, Christmas trees, herbaceous borders, pond plants, nature conservation and so forth. Visits by schools/ Local interests groups are always welcome, given sufficient warning is given (as William lives 250 miles away in Margate, Kent!)

COPRRECTION M.D. Choral Society rehearsal on Wednesday 31 March at 7.45 p.m. at Hodnet Church

In the Parish Magazine for April it is stated that M.D. Choral Society are performing Stainer's Crucifixion at Hodnet at 7 p.m. on Maunday Thursday 1 April. This is correct. However it is wrongly stated that the rehearsal on Wednesday 31 March at 7.45 p.m., to which all are warmly invited, is also at M.D.Junior School. This is incorrect. The rehearsal too is at Hodnet Church at the time stated.

SCAM ALERTS

(1) Convincing VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam

This scam works by the caller verifying you are in possession of your card. They do this by asking you to turn over your credit card and to look for some numbers. There will be 7 numbers; the first 4 digits are part of your card number, the next 3 are security numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. What the scammer wants is the 3- digit PIN Number.

(2) Unwanted Telephone Calls

(3) "I'm A Soldier Give Me Your Bank Account Details"

Trading Standards have been informed of bogus emails in which someone is impersonating a soldier serving in Iraq. These emails are mostly aimed at small local businesses. The impersonators claim that they have an amount of money that they want to move out of the country. Insisting that this is oil money and is completely legal, they state that once the money gets to you you’ll receive 30% and they will take their own 70% out. This is all part of their plan to attract your attention so that you are persuaded to hand over your bank account details to receive your share.
